Winter Fat Biking

GWNEMBA diligently maintains the Fernald Station Trail Network for winter fat biking by utilizing a Snowdog, a compact grooming machine designed for creating smooth, packed trails.

Located near the Rail Trail in Wolfeboro, NH, the 5 miles of beginner to intermediate singletrack trails at Fernald Station are kept rideable year-round through careful grooming practices.

GWNEMBA volunteers operate the Snowdog, ideally in the evening or late at night when temperatures are cooler, to pack down a minimum snow depth of 3–4 inches, ensuring a firm surface that sets overnight and minimizes rutting. This meticulous process ensures consistent, high-quality trail conditions for fat biking enthusiasts throughout the winter.
